Rail Europe launches Swiss panoramic trains on its platforms

The reference brand for train travel to reinforce its position on the European market

Paris, France – 11 April 2023 – Rail Europe announces the expansion of its offer: the two iconic Swiss panoramic trains - Glacier Express & Bernina Express - are now available on all its platforms. By doing so, Rail Europe further confirms its mission to aggregate European Rail at an international scale and expands its portfolio of products, to make train travel easy and to bring more people onto rail.

“As Switzerland is one of Rail Europe’s top destinations, the expansion of our offer holds many promises for our global development. We are very much looking forward to offering the publicly acclaimed Swiss panoramic train reservations, on all our channels.”, says Björn Bender, President & CEO of Rail Europe.

The Glacier Express, the “slowest fast train in the world”, connects Zermatt to St. Moritz and winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland, and the actual glacier Jungfrau of course. The train scales the highest point of its journey at the Oberalp Pass, located 2033 meters above sea level. Thanks to its large panoramic windows, the train provides a clear view of numerous summits, deep gorges and the UNESCO World Heritage sites “Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch” and “Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes”.

High up to the glacial glitter of the mountains, deep down to the palm tree paradise of Italy: the Bernina Express, the highest railway line across the Alps, connects northern Europe with the south. And it does so via a railway line in perfect harmony with its glorious mountain setting. The Bernina Express covers over 122 kilometers through 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and viaducts up to 65m high, including the famous Brusio spiral viaduct. The track between Thusis and Tirano has been part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2008.

Each year, over 400 000 people travel via the Glacier Express and Bernina Express on average. Rail Europe's expansion of its product portfolio with these popular panoramic train rides reinforces its position as a premium partner providing travellers with the largest rail distribution system.
